Theodore Roosevelt Island Cleanup - May 16th, 2021

Join the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Inland Ocean Coalition, Surfrider D.C., Alice Ferguson Foundation, Society for Conservation Biology D.C., and the National Park Service - Theodore Roosevelt Island for a cleanup on Sunday, May 16th from 9:30am-12:00pm EDT.

Schedule

9:30 - 10:15 AM: Invasive Plant Educational walk - hear from Arlington Master Naturalist Erin Gleeson about the common invasive plant species that are found in the DMV and how they impact our local watershed, and take a short walk around the island to spot them. Erin will also share ways that you can help in your own yard or through volunteering.

 

10:30 AM - 12:30 PM: Trash Cleanup - Surfrider D.C., Inland Ocean Coalition D.C., and Society for Conservation Biology D.C. will be leading a trash cleanup around the island. Gloves, bags, trash pickers, and hand sanitizer will be provided.

 

Please note that parking is limited at the Theodore Roosevelt Island parking lot - plan to arrive early, bike or walk, or find alternate street parking in Rosslyn and walk over.

Surfrider D.C. follows strict CDC COVID-19 guidelines for our outdoor events. Masks must be worn at all times, and social distancing must be maintained with anyone outside of your family or "bubble/pod". Hand sanitizer will be provided.
