The Inland Ocean Ambassadors now have a new way to connect on Discord! We hope that this channel can allow you to keep up-to-date with things your fellow OA’s are doing in their parts of the world, and maybe even find some ways to coordinate on efforts regionally.
Discord is a platform that allows people to communicate from all around the world through messaging and voice channels! We’re so excited to be able to connect with all of our ambassadors through the IOC Ambassador Discord. Here’s how you get started!
How to Access and Use Discord
Step 1: Create a Discord Account
- Visit the Website: Go to discord.com.
- Sign Up: Click on “Login” in the top right corner, then select “Register.” Fill in your email, create a username, and set a password. Click “Continue.”
- Verify Your Account: Check your email for a verification message from Discord and follow the instructions to verify your account.
Step 2: Download the App (Optional)
- On a Computer: You can use Discord directly in your web browser, but you can also download the app if you prefer. Click “Download” on the Discord homepage and follow the instructions for installation.
- On a Mobile Device: Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android), search for “Discord,” and install the app, then sign in with your information.
Step 3: Join the IOC Server
- Join our Server: You will need an invitation link to join. If you did not receive the invitation link, please reach out to Haley or Emma (emma.paramore1@gmail.com). Just press the link, then press “accept invitation,” and you’re in!
Step 4: Explore The Discord
- Text Channels: We have so many channels that you can chat in, including a channel for ambassadors from different regions to connect, a channel to share good news, a channel for book and podcast recommendations, and so much more!
- Voice Channels: Click on a voice channel to talk with others in real time. Make sure your microphone and speakers are working!
- Video Calls: You can start a video call in a voice channel by clicking the video camera icon.
Step 5: Customizing Your Profile
- Edit Your Profile: Click on your username at the bottom left, then select “Edit Profile” to change your picture, username, and about me section.
- Privacy Settings: Go to “User Settings” by clicking the gear icon next to your username. Here, you can adjust who can send you messages and friend requests.
Step 6: Have Fun!
Explore the different channels, join discussions, and make new friends.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask one of the moderators (Emma, Haley, or Mia). You can do that by typing “@“ and the name you want to signal, or by simply writing “@moderators.” Welcome to the IOC community! We are so glad you are here!
