Polar Planet is one of IOC’s partners in fighting plastic pollution based out of Denver. Polar Planet has just recently released a review of all their hard work from 2024. Check out the document below to see what consistent action for the environment looks like!
Polar Planet adopted Weir Gulch in 2019 through the City of Denver Adopt a Trail program. Our trash blitzing spans the entire length of the Weir Gulch riparian area, beginning at the creek’s confluence with the South Platte River to Denver’s border at Sheridan Blvd. This has included countless trash blitzes at Barnum Park, Barnum Pond, Sandos Fields, Weir Gulch, and the Ruth Dreiling Park, even venturing across Alameda Ave. into Westwood.
In 2024, Denver Parks and Recreation recognized Polar Planet by purchasing two stand-up paddle boards explicitly for the organization’s commitment to Barnum Pond and its continued effort to improve our local park’s ambience by eliminating plastic pollution in our waterways, including the creek, pond, and wetlands.
Polar Planet has twice been an individual recipient of the Community Action Living Coalition (CALC) grant to improve walkability.
This spring 2025, please join Polar Planet at any or all of our upcoming trash blitzes:
- Barnum Pond #1, Saturday, 3/22 8am-12pm on World Water Day
- Weir Gulch #1, Tuesday 4/22 3pm-7pm on Earth Day
- Barnum Pond #2, Saturday 5/10 8am-12pm on World Migratory Bird Day
Polar Planet may be emailed directly at: polar.planet.earth@gmail.com.
We at IOC salute Polar Planet for all they do in the Denver Metro area, and for inspiring others to TrashBlitz their own neighborhoods.
